Abstract: The eleventh edition of the Maltex Philatelic Exhibition has come and gone and is now history. The number of visitors to the Exhibition was one of the best ever and according to general consensus it was a success. It would be unethical to add any further comments by one who was involved both in the organisation and as an exhibitor. The Exhibition was held at the 'Green Lounge' of the Hotel Phoenicia from 8th to 10th October. It was inaugurated on Thursday 7th October by the Chairman of the Malta Study Circle (U.K.) Dr. Rodger Evans B.Sc., Ph .D., Hon. F.A.P.S., and blessed by the Rev . Anthony Galea S .J. who has been a member of the Malta Philatelic Society since 1977. [excerpt]</summary>

Abstract: In 1859 the Council of Government after a prolonged debate, decided that the Free Internal Post, which had been inaugurated on the 10th June 1853, would be withdrawn on a date to be announced later, and a half penny stamp would be issued for internal use in Malta and Gozo. On the 12th March 1859, it was resolved in the Committee of Supply that: "it is the opinion of this Committee that a sum not exceeding £110 chargeable upon the revenue of the year 1859, be applied under the head of Miscellaneous Services for cost of a die and other articles for making stamps for a half penny postage for the transmission of letters by the inland post" Following this resolution the Clerk of the Council of Government, on the 30th April1859, informed the Crown Agents for the Colonies, who in turn commissioned Messrs De La Rue &amp; Co to go ahead with the engraving of a die, which was executed by J. F. Joubert de la Ferte.</summary>

Abstract: Malta's first stamp, the Queen Victoria Half Penny Yellow, engraved by Jean de la Ferte, always had a special attraction for me, and my collection was awarded at F.I.P. Exhibitions, Large Gold in Vienna, Gold in Milan, Tokyo, Barcelona, and Large Vermeil with special prises in nine other European countries, including London 1980. This stamp was issued on the 1st December 1860, and remained in use up to the 1st January 1885, when the first definitive set of Malta was issued. [excerpt]</summary>
