Abstract: This document is being presented by Elton Barbara and it discusses the "Study of Health and Safety Conditions In Workplaces in Malta". […]&#xD;
Further to the translation of the European Directives into Maltese Law, a number of institutions commenced educational awareness on H&amp;S in the Maltese Islands. The aim of this study is to assess employee awareness with the use of a representative sample of workers, in relation to the training provided. A literature search will be made to review existing, tested questions on the evaluation of awareness, which will be used or adjusted for the purpose of this study. Personal interviews will be conducted using the previously filtered sample questions.

Abstract: The aim of this dissertation was to look at the various stages and aspects of the canning process and how control could be implemented. Part 1 will be dealing with the general standards necessary to achieve a good quality of the process. The canning process extends over a wide spectrum of individual operations. It starts from the raw materials' production or harvesting and goes right through the canning establishment, storage, transportation and retail of the end product. Part 2 will deal on the local situation of the canning industry and how the present standards could be improved. Two on spot inspections were carried out at two different canning factories. A report was made on both of these. Their present standards were then compared to the ideal situation present in Part 1. Recommendations were then issued regarding the areas within the process where improvement is to be sought.

    <summary type="text">Title: Energy drinks
Abstract: The 'energy' or 'power-drinks occupy a special position among non-alcoholic drinks containing caffeine, taurine and sometimes guarana. The actual cradle of these drinks is to be found in Asia. Drinks containing the substance taurine are very popular there, especially in Japan. As a result of this observation of the Japanese market, an Austrian had the idea of marketing a drink of this kind in Europe. It was first introduced in Austria in 1987. Before the market launch, various official hurdles had to be overcome, because this 'energy drink' did not meet the Austrian regulations. Even before 'energy drinks' could legally be brought into circulation in Germany, they were already known there. Following their official release, they came not on to a selling market, but onto a waiting buyer's market. The huge success of energy drinks is attributable not least to a well -designed advertising and introduction campaign on TV, radio and press. Maybe it is more a feeling than a product that is being sold. The circle of consumers of energy drinks covers in particular, young people who since the introduction of 'technomusic' in discotheques and trendy bars of the big cities, long for innovative drinks to liven them up. It also includes students, athletes, truck and taxi drivers and workaholics.

    <summary type="text">Title: Recycling of urban and industrial waste water
Abstract: This study on the recycling of urban and industrial waste water forms part of our present studies and is one of the requirements for the completion of our course for the Diploma in Environmental Health. The subject has been analysed from various aspects. The various implications of water use in Malta have been taken into consideration, and ways in which water can be saved either by re-circulation or by treatment have been taken into account. The constituents of waste water generated by both urban and industrial sources, can be sometimes recollected and reused. On the other hand, other constituents, mainly from the industrial sector can be harmful both for the treatment plants involved after collection for reuse and for agricultural purposes. This work has been made possible by the sincere help of managers and engineers in the different food, drink and process industries visited, who gave me all the necessary information asked of them. On what concerns agriculture, the staff at the 'Land and Water Use section' Għammieri, proved to be indispensable.
