Abstract: The economic development in Gozo has been the subject
of many reports, where the so-called double-insularity
is often mentioned as a major constraint in this regard.
The Gozo Special Needs Assessment (2002), in which
the present author was involved in its preparation,
emphasised the fact that business units operating from
Gozo suffer from various disadvantages when compared
to their counterparts in mainland Malta, leading to
increased operating costs for Gozo based firms. [excerpt]

Title: The COVID-19 pandemic - its effects on the Gozitan tourism sector
Abstract: Tourism is a major component and contributor
of the Gozitan economy. It is a sector that not
only injects overseas funds in the economy, but,
due to its high multipliers, also creates other job
opportunities. The economic benefit of tourism is
far reaching and is also beneficial to other directly
and indirectly related sectors, which either depend
on tourism activity for their custom, or else depend
on expenditure generated from tourism for their
success. It is estimated that approximately 50% of
the Gozitan Gross Domestic Product is generated
by the tourism sector.

Abstract: In this article, some curious Gozitan place-names
are analysed according to their meanings. Before
starting with the first place-name, a brief generic
introduction about the meaning of toponyms is
necessary. Aquilina (1961), Wettinger (2000) and
Zammit Ciantar (1978) gave different and detailed
classifications of Maltese toponyms. However,
in general all place-names can be divided into
two main categories: descriptive toponyms and
anthroponyms.
