Abstract: During the time of the Order, the Officina della Posta carried out its duties under the aegis of the Treasury (Il Comun Tesoro), and the head of the Post Office was called Il Commissario della Posta, invariably one of the professed Knights. From 1797, Domenico Montanaro was the First Clerk in the Department, which post he retained during the first two years of British rule. In 1802, Gio Antonio Micallef was appointed Commissario dell'Officio della Posta, which Office also gave employment to Montanaro as Senior Clerk and Vincenzo Mamo as Junior Clerk. Micallef resigned on the 12th April 1804 and his post was abolished. Less than a year later, Domenico Montanaro became Direttore della Posta. He was assisted by one clerk, the said Vincenzo Mamo, and a Portiere, Giuseppe Azzopart. At this period, the Post Office was in charge of both inland and overseas mail. [excerpt]</summary>

Abstract: Our overseas members might not be aware that the society does not hold any meetings during July, August, September. The main reason being that most members are on holiday, either in Gozo or abroad, and the hot summer months are not quite ideal for stamp manipulation. So the first meeting held, was the October one and Mrs. Ann Harris delighted us by exhibiting her wonderful Prisoners of War Mail Collection in two parts - during the October and November meetings. During October as part of our 20th Anniversary celebrations, on the initiative of Mr. Vincent Mercieca and the Circolo Gozitano our Society held its first exhibition in Rabat Gozo at the Circolo Gozitano on the 11th and 12th October. For this very special occasion an appropriate cover commemorating this event, signed by our President Dr. J. Mercieca, and the President of the Circolo Gozitano Dr. A. Grech was issued.
