    <summary type="text">Title: Design of an eco-friendly make-up packaging
Abstract: An individual’s choice of lifestyle will have an impact on our environment; for&#xD;
example, the choice of purchasing a non-sustainable product against a&#xD;
sustainable product. The objective of manufacturers and suppliers is to meet the&#xD;
changing needs and wants of an increasing population. Various studies and&#xD;
statistics have been conducted to illustrate the impact of packaging on the&#xD;
environment; infact, in a year approximately 50 million tons of waste is&#xD;
generated, with around 120 billion units being product packaging. Plastic is one&#xD;
of the most popular materials used within the manufacturing industry; thus, the&#xD;
European Union issued new regulations and strategies, such as the Industries&#xD;
Policy Strategy. The latter strategies ensure that all companies abide to laws and&#xD;
regulations to help reduce the amount of waste generated. Additionally,&#xD;
customers are becoming more conscious about the environment hence&#xD;
manufacturers and suppliers are looking into producing eco-friendly products.&#xD;
The objective for this project is to design a sustainable and modular cosmetic&#xD;
case. The reason behind choosing a modular approach towards this design is to&#xD;
enable customer to re-use most of the product packaging, which will&#xD;
automatically help to reduce the environmental burden. Additionally, sustainable&#xD;
material was selected for this project, so as to ensure that the consumer can still&#xD;
purchase the requested product without having a negative impact on the&#xD;
environment, when disposing of the product at the end of its product life cycle.
