    <description>Title: Fostering creativity through design and technology education
Abstract: Present and future generations need an education that prepares them to pro-actively manage and direct the ongoing change that modern societies are faced with. This is done by creatively applying acquired knowledge to new, unknown situations. The 4P framework – Person, Process, Product, and Press, can guide a holistic exploration of creativity. The authenticity in Design and Technology Education and frequent practice of the design process are key to foster the metacognition required for creativity. Teachers, however, are faced with dilemmas, having to compromise between the requirements for creativity and the demands of education systems. Hence, this project-dissertation aims to develop a practical toolkit for creativity, addressed towards Design and Technology teachers. This is done in 2 Phases. Phase 01 involves interviews with 4 Design and Technology teachers to understand creativity within the local context. This phase and the literature review inform the development of the toolkit, which is then evaluated through interviews with 3 Design and Technology teachers in Phase 02. It emerges that teachers focus primarily on the creative Product, and that creativity is reduced when students cannot express their ideas. With the design process at its core - facilitated through the spiral curriculum and specific design tools - the toolkit addresses all 4Ps with the creative Person as its long-term goal. Phase 02 shows that the toolkit reaches the intended aim to support high-level thinking required for creativity. Ultimately, this project-dissertation highlights the role of Design and Technology Education in preparing present and future generations for the society they design and live in.

Abstract: Għażilt li niffoka fuq it-tagħlim tal-imperattiv u d-direzzjonijiet permezz tal-ħila tas-smigħ sabiex kemm jista' jkun, niffaċilita t-tagħlim ta' dawk l-istudenti li qegħdin jitgħallmu l-Malti bħala Lingwa Barranija. Din id-dissertazzjoni f'forma ta' proġett tinkludi l-importanza tal-ħila tas-smigħ u x'jgħidu diversi riċerkaturi dwarha. Barra minn hekk, hemm ukoll mudell ta' kif għandha tkun lezzjoni tas-smigħ li verament tgħin lill-istudenti li qed jitgħallmu lingwa barranija u lill-għalliema tagħhom, sabiex jiffukaw aktar fuq il-proċess aktar milli l-marka t-tajba li jġibu fit-taħriġiet li jkollhom. Din it-teżi tinkludi wkoll seba' verbi li huma kkompjuterizzati fis-sit il-'Ġabra' talproġett MaltiTek. Dawn huma kkoreġuti bl-id umana sabiex ma jkunx hemm żbalji filkonjugazzjonijiet. Għaldaqstant, l-għalliema jkunu jistgħu jirreferu għalihom waqt xi lezzjoni biex jiggwidaw aktar lill-istudenti waqt xi lezzjoni partikolari li jkunu bnew. Laħħar u mhux l-inqas, din it-teżi tinkludi pakkett ta' riżorsi. Minkejja li ma ġewx implimentati fil-klassi, dawn għandhom iservu ta' għajnuna lill-istudenti u 'l-għalliema. Permezz tagħhom, il-lezzjonijiet tal-imperattiv u d-direzzjonijiet ikunu varjati u listudenti jkunu motivati u kurjużi biex jitgħallmu aktar u jużaw din il-lingwa lil hinn mill-klassi. Xi riżorsi oħra għandhom jgħinu lill-istudenti jtejbu l-grammatika u lvokabolarju tagħhom. Bħala stil ta' referenza, użajt l-American Psychological Association (APA, is-seba' edizzjoni).

Abstract: language students. Apart from the fact that they are not simply convincing but, above all, entertaining, commercials can also induce one to reflect profoundly on various cultural and linguistic aspects. As Pavan (2013, 117) affirms, “L’uso della pubblicità nell’insegnamento di una lingua straniera ha un indiscutibile effetto motivante e mettelostudente in contatto con la lingua e la cultura quotidiane”. Moreover, Peters (2019) argues how the studies of Peters &amp; Webb (2018) and Rogers &amp;Webb (2019) “[...] have shown that learners can pick up new words incidentally when watching TV”. Therefore, given that television commercials are composed of audio, imagery and also on-screen text, they aid foreign language students in gaining more vocabulary. This research study aims to find out whether and how teachers of Italian as a foreign language in secondary schools in Malta integrate commercials in their lessons and what is their perspective on this particular audiovisual methodology of teaching. This will be determined through 6 semi-structured online interviews with teachers of Italian of year 10coming from the three different sectors, namely State, Church and Independent schools. In addition, this research will also analyse the practicality of the use of commercials in class by determining the difficulties encountered by teachers, the perceived advantages and disadvantages, the attitudes and reactions of the students in class when including commercials in lessons. It will also explore the linguistic and cultural aspects that can be taught through the use of commercials. This will be done by preparing a set of 4 lesson plans based on the use of commercials together with all relevant teaching resources.

Abstract: F’din it-teżi se jiġi ppreżentat pakkett ta’ riżorsi li miegħu se jinkludi deskrizzjoni dettaljata ta’ kull riżorsa. Dan il-pakkett jikkonsisti minn għoxrin riżorsa, li kollha huma marbutin mat-tema ta’ djarna u l-bini ta’ madwarna: għaxar riżorsi tradizzjonali jiġifieri leħħiet, puzzles u karti tat-taħriġ, kif ukoll għaxar riżorsi diġitali eżempju kwiżż, powerpoints u logħob interattiv. Dawn ir-riżorsi huma mmirati għall-istudenti li qed jitgħallmu l-Malti bħala lingwa barranija, fl-iskola Medja u Sekondarja li jinsabu fil-livell elementari tal-Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), jiġifieri livell A1 u A2. Għalhekk, dawn ir-riżorsi għandhom jolqtu l-erba’ ħiliet tal-lingwa, jiġifieri: il-qari, il-kitba, is-smigħ u t-taħdit. Permezz tat-tema prinċipali, l-istudenti se jkomplu jkabbru t-tagħlim tal-vokabularju u se jiltaqgħu u jitħarrġu f’aspetti grammatikali marbuta mal-prepożizzjonijiet. Apparti mill-ħolqien tar-riżorsi, ħadt sehem fil-proġett MaltiTek. F’dan il-proġett jien ikkoreġejt il-lessemi u l-forom derivattivi ta’ erba’ verbi: għalaq, żejjen, kines u għasar. Permezz ta’ dan il-proġett dawn il-verbi setgħu jkunu aġġornati fis-sit il-‘Ġabra’. L-għan ta’ dan kollu huwa li niffaċilita l-mod ta’ kif l-istudenti jitgħallmu l-Malti bħala lingwa barranija.
