    <description>Title: All children are our children : practitioners’ perceptions of the role of counsellors’ in supporting the immigrant child’s acculturation
Abstract: This study aimed at exploring how counsellors’ and other helping professionals’ perceive the role of counselling in supporting the acculuration of immigrant children and adolescents. Eleven open-ended semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven helping professionals. The data was then recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. A total of five super-ordinate themes emerged from the analysis of the data, specifically: the challenges of acculuration; understanding acculturation; systems of acculturation; the counsellor as professional and person; and the role of the counsellor in acculuration. The findings clearly suggest that counselling is beneficial for acculturating immigrant children and adolescents.

    <title>The oral health and oral health-related quality of life status in state institutionalised older adults in Malta</title>
    <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/76786</link>
    <description>Title: The oral health and oral health-related quality of life status in state institutionalised older adults in Malta
Abstract: OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study was to develop a reliable and valid Maltese &#xD;
version of 3 internationally-reliable and valid oral health related quality of life (OHQoL) &#xD;
questionnaires to determine the oral health status and oral health related quality of life of &#xD;
older adults. METHODS: The items of the 3 questionnaires (OHIP-14, GOHAI and &#xD;
Denture Satisfaction) were translated into Maltese and back translated into English to &#xD;
prepare with the original version. Specific sampling of a population well versed in &#xD;
Maltese and English was carried out to obtain a sample of respondents for each &#xD;
questionnaire (OHIP-14 n=54, GO HAI n=51, Denture Satisfaction n=51 ). Data was &#xD;
gathered through self-administered questionnaires, administering first the English &#xD;
version, followed by the Maltese version one week later. A random sample of 278 older &#xD;
adults with an average age of 83.5 years± 6.5 years from 9 state institutions participated &#xD;
in the study. Participants were both clinically examined and answered a questionnaire &#xD;
for socio-demographic, medical and OHQoL data. RESULTS: Cronbach's alpha for all &#xD;
the three questionnaires was high (&gt;0.7) indicating satisfactory test-retest reliability of &#xD;
the instruments.

    <title>Health related quality of life of older prisoners in Nigerian prisons</title>
    <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/76755</link>
    <description>Title: Health related quality of life of older prisoners in Nigerian prisons
Abstract: Background The problem of ageing is not restricted to the free society; the prisons are &#xD;
beginning to see more inmates reaching their fifth decades and above. The reasons for the &#xD;
changes may differ, harsher sentencing and slow judicial processes may account for these &#xD;
changes in the prisons. &#xD;
Methods The study was a quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study, involving the use of a &#xD;
structured questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L) and a semi-structured questionnaire that covered socio&#xD;
demographic data. Using the convenience sampling technique, the face-to-face interview was &#xD;
conducted in the clinic of the prison with a sample size of 96 inmates that were 50 years and &#xD;
above. &#xD;
Results Older male inmates formed 99% of the sample, with an average age of 52.8 years. &#xD;
Over 70% were married and most of them were between 50-54 years. Educational was found to &#xD;
be significantly related to their health related quality of life. The domains of mobility, self-care, &#xD;
usual activities and pain/discomfort were statistically significant on the EQ-5D-5L health related &#xD;
quality of life questionnaire. There was also, a significant difference in the chronic diseases &#xD;
prevalent in the prisons among the respondents. Age was also found to be a predictor of how &#xD;
they perceived their health status. &#xD;
Conclusion All the dimensions of health related quality of life except anxiety and depression &#xD;
were statistically significant. Health related quality of life of older prisoners is affected by, &#xD;
educational level, chronic disease conditions such as arthritis, memory deficits and &#xD;
cardiovascular conditions. Most of them were incarcerated because of violent crimes.

    <title>Health-related quality of life of post-stroke older patients</title>
    <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/76320</link>
    <description>Title: Health-related quality of life of post-stroke older patients
Abstract: Background: In UAE, there is a huge predicted increase in the incidence of &#xD;
heart attacks and strokes as a result of high increase in the cardiovascular risk &#xD;
factors such as smoking, high cholesterol, hypertension, poor physical activity, &#xD;
lifestyle and diabetes. Although, the government and the private are investing &#xD;
billions of dollars in the health care sectors, there are very few stroke units and &#xD;
rehabilitation centers in the country. The life expectancy and the number of older &#xD;
persons in the country is increasing. With decrease in stroke mortality tales, &#xD;
more individuals are likely to live with their residual impairments and disabilities &#xD;
Many health and social services for the older persons his been initiated. With &#xD;
very few researchers being conducted, the issues associated both with stroke and &#xD;
with the older persons in the UAE are obscure and difficult to understand.
