Strategies for effective cybersecurity management in organizations

Title: Strategies for effective cybersecurity management in organizations
Authors: Ciekanowski, Marek; Żurawski, Sławomir; Pauliuchuk, Yury; Ciekanowski, Zbigniew; Marciniak, Stanisław
Abstract: PURPOSE: The purpose of this article is to analyse management actions aimed at increasing
the level of cybersecurity within an organization.; DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The article addresses various aspects of cybersecurity,
referencing statistical data related to ICT security in enterprises as well as incidents
occurring in businesses both in Poland and the EU. Analysis of incident data facilitated
determining the impact of cyber threats on organizational security and operations. The
research problem was formulated as: How can proper cybersecurity management in an
organization influence its functioning? Corresponding to the research problem, the following
hypothesis was adopted: Proper cybersecurity management in an organization enhances its
operational efficiency. Verification of the hypothesis and obtaining answers to the posed
questions required the application of research methods. For the research, literature analysis,
the examination of legal acts concerning cybersecurity, and a detailed analysis of data from
national and international reports in the studied area were utilized. The authors also
considered their existing knowledge in this field.; FINDINGS: Cybersecurity management is a crucial element of contemporary organizational
functioning. Organizations that do not take action in cybersecurity expose themselves not
only to the risk of financial losses or reputation damage but even to the cessation of
operations.; PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Cybersecurity needs to be approached systematically. It is extremely
important to engage in cooperation and utilize solutions from entities that provide us with an
adequate level of cybersecurity.; ORIGINALITY/VALUE: In this study, the authors presented the legal regulations of Poland and
the European Union in the field of cybersecurity, described aspects of cybersecurity
management, and presented the roles of cybersecurity management in the functioning of contemporary organizations. The authors also outlined principles that can help in managing
cyber risk in modern enterprises.

Values held by generation X, Y, Z employees as predictors of work motivation

Title: Values held by generation X, Y, Z employees as predictors of work motivation
Authors: Kupczyk, Teresa; Górski, Arkadiusz; Urbańska, Kamila; Ucieklak-Jeż, Paulina; Wierzbiński, Bogdan
Abstract: PURPOSE: The main objective of the research, identified with the main research problem, was
to identify, analyse and diagnose the values held by Generation X, Y, Z employees and their
relationship with work motivation.; DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: In order to solve the research problem and verify the
hypotheses posed, a quantitative empirical study was conducted on a research sample of
2312 individuals from Generations X, Y and Z. A proprietary survey questionnaire and PAPI
and CAWI research techniques were used. Relationships between variables were
investigated using Pearson's linear correlation coefficient and also based on the coefficient
of the multiple regression model. A value of 0.05 was used as the level of significance.; FINDINGS: The level of work motivation of the employees surveyed by the existing
motivational system in their organisations was determined. It is not high and depends on the
values held by the employees. Generation X and Generation Z are the most motivated,
Generation Y the least. The highest importance for respondents is family, although the
importance of this value decreases with lower age, as is the case with work and discipline.
The lowest importance is ascribed to these values by Generation Z. On the other hand, the
more often the respondents come from the younger generation, the greater the importance
for them of income/assets, as well as health and intensity of life. Generation Z also attributes
the highest importance to these values. The more important family is to respondents, the
more important honesty, health and work are to them. It also turned out that the higher the motivation to work, the more important values such as: discipline and authority are for the
respondents.; PRACTICAL IMPLICATION: The practical business implications mainly concern the possibility for
managers to use the results of the research in the process of managing the organisation's
human resources and their age diversity.; ORIGINALITY/VALUE: It turned out that there are differences between the values held by
employees from Generations X, Y, Z. The younger the generation, the less importance they
give to the values studied. It therefore seems legitimate to conclude that there are deficits in
the level of professed values. Significant relationships were also identified between
employees' professed values and their work motivation.

Adoption of modern technologies in seniors' households : post-pandemic behavioral shifts

Title: Adoption of modern technologies in seniors' households : post-pandemic behavioral shifts
Authors: Wlodarczyk, Katarzyna
Abstract: PURPOSE: The aim of this article is to determine to what extent the changes that have taken
place in the functioning of societies as a result of the pandemic through the introduction of
lock-down and the transfer of many activities to the virtual world are, at present, evident in
the functioning of households of seniors.; DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The article is theoretical and empirical in nature. The
theoretical part was developed on the basis of the literature on the subject. The empirical
part uses the results of a survey conducted in January 2023 on a group of 320 people
representing households of seniors in the West Pomeranian Voivodship.; FINDINGS: The results of the study made it possible, to define the characteristic attitudes of
older people towards the use of modern technologies, as well as to draw new conclusions or
supplement data on the behaviour of seniors in an age of constant technological progress.; PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The behaviour of seniors in their households as a result of the
pandemic changes taking place around them and the use of modern technologies has also
been transformed. At present, it is difficult to predict in which direction they will evolve.; ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The study can therefore supplement the existing knowledge on the
presented topic, while at the same time it allows us to identify further research directions.

Applying shift-share analysis to assess the growth potential of crucial bioeconomy sectors in Poland

Title: Applying shift-share analysis to assess the growth potential of crucial bioeconomy sectors in Poland
Authors: Kraska, Ewa Monika; Mach, Łukasz; Kiliańska, Katarzyna
Abstract: PURPOSE: The article evaluates the main sectors that create the bioeconomy in the
voivodeships in Poland based on the structural-geographical shift-share method.; DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The study utilizes the structural-geographical shift-share
method to analyze the development dynamics of the bioeconomy sectors across Polish
voivodeships. This method allows for the decomposition of changes in employment or output
into structural, regional, and interactive components, providing insights into the
contributions of sectoral and regional factors to overall growth. Data collected by the
Central Statistical Office was used to analyze the five areas constituting the bioeconomy.; FINDINGS: The conducted research enabled the assessment of the level of development in key
sectors of the bioeconomy in Poland and identified variations in development potential and
structural transformations within this sector. The identification and analysis covered five
areas belonging to the bioeconomy, agriculture, food, textiles, wood, and chemicals.; PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Valuable insights for policymakers and regional authorities aiming
to promote sustainable development through the bioeconomy are provided by the findings of
this study. Regional disparities, structural transformations, and sectors with the highest
growth potential are identified, offering a foundation for the design of targeted policies and
strategies that enhance the development of the bioeconomy across Poland’s voivodeships.; ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The article makes a significant contribution to both theoretical and
practical discussions on the development of the bioeconomy in Poland by analysing the
situation in individual voivodeships.
