Title: Research data management, drUM, & responsible data sharing
Abstract: A hands-on workshop on making research data FAIR, improving data organisation and documentation, and depositing processed datasets in drUM. Through a practical overview of responsibilities, quality controls, metadata, reproducibility, permissions, licensing, and citation, participants will learn how to make research data more organised, secure, reusable, and compliant with funder or institutional expectations. The workshop is designed for researchers, students, and research support staff who want to improve the visibility, integrity, and long-term value of their research data.

Title: DOC6061 - Open access, OAR@UM and drUM
Abstract: The presentation explains the role of Open Access (OA) in providing free and reusable access to scholarly work and data. It introduces OAR@UM, the University of Malta’s institutional repository launched in 2014, which preserves and shares publications, theses, and other scholarly and cultural outputs. It also presents drUM, the University’s research data repository launched in 2023, which supports storage, versioning, and sharing of datasets curated directly by researchers. Both platforms, managed by the UM Library, enhance visibility, accessibility, and long-term preservation of research while ensuring quality control and compliance with OA principles.

Title: AI and its use in academic libraries
Abstract: This presentation, by Stefania Galea, introduces librarians to the fundamentals of Generative AI, including large language models and image generation. It provides an overview of key models and their potential applications in academic library workflows, with a focus on prompt engineering and role assignment. Through a hands-on activity, attendees gain practical experience in designing prompts and engaging with AI tools. The session also highlights real-life library use cases, while fostering critical discussion on the ethical, procedural, and strategic implications of integrating AI into academic library services.
