Whilst some piazzas where planned, many others, especially in villages evolved organically. Xagħra’s Pjazza is one of the latter, formed by two crossing roads. By choosing a name for their home, the owners are expressing pride and also their interests, sentiments and tastes. House names in Gozo display baptismal names, surnames, nicknames, devotion, love of animals, birds or fish, hobbies, local landmarks, foreign lands and, most typical of all, nostalgia for the land where one lived and worked as an emigrant before returning to Gozo.
