Title: The use of measurements of hCG and other pregnancy-associated proteins and steroids in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy
Authors: Stabile, Isabel; Grudzinskas, J. G.
Abstract: The measurement of serum of urinary hCG is commonly used to make or exclude the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy in women presenting with symptoms suspicious of ectopic pregnancy. Detection of depressed hCG levels is indicative of early pregnancy failure. Depressed serum levels of proteins of hormone of trophoblastic, ovarian or endometrial origin make the diagnosis of ectopic gestation more likely, whilst high values are likely to exclude the possibility of this condition.

Authors: Borg, Andrew A.; Dawes, Peter T.; Hothersall, T.E.
Abstract: The seronegative spondyloarthropathies comprise a group of non-rheumatoid disorders with similar clinical, laboratory and genetic features. Recognition of new clinical features has supported the notion that they all form part of a clinical spectrum. These features and the classification of the seronegative spondyloarthropathies are discussed in the review.

Difficulties in the delivery of high quality family medicine

Title: Difficulties in the delivery of high quality family medicine
Authors: Martin, Edwin E.J.
Abstract: Many young people find medicine fascinating and a challenging career due to the attraction of dealing with a subject relating to life and death and major life incidents, as well as having the opportunity to get to know people over a long period through the ups and downs of life. In this article the author describes two particular problems in the delivery of health care. The first is the difference between doctors’ agendas and patients’ agendas and the second is communication between said parties.
