Title: The Church and the rise of universities : part 2
Abstract: The earliest universities which are generally recognised as those of Bologna and Paris, as we have seen, grew "ex consuetudine". They were not founded in virtue of a papal or imperial charter. Out of these others developed, by migration, or by formal establishment. As the universities, at first, had no buildings like om modern halls and laboratories, it was very easy for the students and professors, when they found fault with one "studium", to go and seek another.
