The relevance of an anthropological-biblical approach in contemporary mariology

Title: The relevance of an anthropological-biblical approach in contemporary mariology
Abstract: It often happens that when we try to assess the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Salvific Mission of her Son, we omit Biblical sources and base our information mostly upon less reliable ones such as the numerous apocryphal writings that are fantastic in tenor and unknown in origin. Eventually, we misinterpret the real role of Mary in the Economy of Salvation and create a devotion that is rich in sentiment but very shallow from a theological viewpoint. Undoubtedly, the image of the Blessed Virgin has suffered greatly from such an approach since Mary became less and less human and a stranger to our world. In this essay I intend to show that the contemporary renewed interest in an anthropologic-biblical image of Mary, which is indeed the image adopted by the Second Vatican Council, does not only help us to assess her authentic role in God's plan of Salvation, under the New Dispensation, but also to assert her solidarity with man- kind-in-need-of-redemption, her unique place in the Mystery of Christ which is also the Mystery of Israel and of the Church. Furthermore, in this process there will eventually emerge her relations with Christians in their daily committment.

Mixed marriages in Malta (1800-1900)

Title: Mixed marriages in Malta (1800-1900)
Abstract: The Law of Malta with regard to the formalities required for the validity of a Marriage, even as a contract, has always been the Canon Law, of which the decrees of the Council of Trent are an integral part. Since the beginning of British occupation in Malta (1800), the frequent contact between Maltese inhabitants and English residents in the Island brought forth a's a consequence marriages between Catholics and Protestants. Such are known as 'Mixed Marriages'. At first they were very rare: one in 1801, another five up to 1810 inclusively, two of which celebrated before the Protestant Minister. The Holy See was at that time very reluctant to grant dispensations for the celebration of such marriages. It permitted them just to avoid great disorders. For a period, the Governor was induced to refuse the celebration of such marriages before the Protestant Minister.

Title: The phrase 'transformatio corporis et sanguinis domini' in the documents of the Gallican and Hispanic liturgies
Abstract: (Resume of Part II, Art. 6 c), of the thesis 'Les Post Secreta du Missale Gothicum et la Theologie Eucharistique de l' Anaphore Gallicane': Fr. John Frendo O.P., Paris 1964). The phrase' transformatio Corporis et Sanguinis Christi' is found in two documents of the Gallican liturgy: The Missale Gothicum (nn. 154 and 57) and in the Masses called of MONE (nn. 331). We find it also in three documents of the Hispanic liturgy: the Liber Mozarabicus Sacramentorum (n.854), the Missale Mixtum (PL 85, col. 794 and 250), and the Liber Ordinum (ed. FEROTIN 342 and 281); so that in all we find it in eight liturgical formulas of the eucharistic anaphora. Apart from these we find parallel texts which we will deal with later on.

Title: Some moral reflections on heart transplant surgical procedures
Abstract: A very seriously written article in one of the world's most popular weekly magazines some time ago called attention to a number of grave and perplexing problems posed by the startling and audacious experiments which are currently being undertaken by scientists, particularly in the biological and medical spheres, and, more important still, by the far-reaching and disquieting implications resulting from or connected with the prospects opened up for the near or remote future by experiments of this kind. The writer of the article expressed his view on the need and value of moral and religious guidance in scientific advances with these words.
