Title: Issues in Bible translation, 6 : Hannah expresses her strong feelings about her rival and about the Lord in her hymn of praise (1Sam 2,1-2)
Abstract: The present study forms part of a wider research project that would comprise the
entire text block ISam 1,1-2,21, the story of Samuel's birth and infancy. What helps
isolating this textual segment from the rest of its literary context are the wayhi
clause in 1,1 that introduces the family of Samuel as personages completely unknown
with the readers, and the circumstantial clause in 2,22 which ushers in Eli and his
family as the participants in the next narratological unit. This essay will focus
further on part of what the Masoretic reading tradition identified as Hannah's tephillah
(2,1-10), normally formulated as 'poetry' notwithstanding current scholarly
misgivings to apply such descriptive terms for identifying literary units within the
Hebrew canon.

A historical approach to the question of psychic incapacity

Title: A historical approach to the question of psychic incapacity
Abstract: Is canon 1095 of the 1983 Latin Code a novelty in Church Law? From a formal
viewpoint, the canon, which derives from canonical jurisprudence, certainly
represents an innovation, since the former Code presupposed but did not explicitly
treat the types of incapacity of the spouses with regards to marriage. Yet, from a
substantial perspective, it is interesting to note that classical canon law already
tackled the issue of psychical infirmity as a cause of incapacity to contract marriage,
even though this was not said in a technical and precise way. For this reason, a
brief analysis of certain historical sources, without pretending to be exhaustive, will
make it clear that the canon in question is not a radical originality, but a technical
precision of a clear awareness present in the marriage system of law since its
beginnings. Besides, it will help us to understand the significance and the motives
of the incumbent legislation.

La filosofia di Pietro Caxaro (+1485)
