Title: The abolition of retratto or the rights of preference and of pre-empton
Abstract: February 1961 saw the abolition in Malta of the right of
Pre-Emption and of the right of Preference. These were two
very ancient rights which originated in Ancient Roman Law,
existed in the Middle Ages and until quite recently, relatively
speaking, were found in Most European Civil Codes; but in
modern times the tendency everywhere is to have them abolished
or severely curtailed.
