The language laboratory

Title: The language laboratory
Abstract: Both inside and outside educational circles Malta reacted with
marked interest to the installation at The Royal University of
the island's first language laboratory. Normal curiosity, sometimes
tinged with uninformed enthusiasm, sometimes with mild
scepticism, engendered basic questions about its nature, its methods
and its usefulness. What is it? How does it work? What
can it do? And it is these questions that this article will consider.
It cannot claim however, to provide complete answers
always, for language laboratories are still relatively .new on the
educational scene and in the adaptation of the equipment and
material to each new language situation, some of our efforts must
remain experimental.

Title: The wines and vines of Malta : Buskett Grape and Wine Station
Abstract: In the matter of wines, there has been notable progress in the
production and marketing of the local product since my last contribution
to the Malta Year Book. The story of local wine production is,
as a matter of fact, both absorbing and interesting and shows beyond
a shadow of a doubt that, given proper cooperation between Government
and local enterprise, it is possible to achieve positive results
within a relatively short time.
