    <title>Dynamic modelling of a hydraulic wind turbine</title>
    <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/78711</link>
    <description>Title: Dynamic modelling of a hydraulic wind turbine
Abstract: The recent surge in demand for wind turbines has raised concern about &#xD;
availability of materials for their construction. The project analysis the possibility &#xD;
of replacing the electrical generator by a hydraulic pump. Such systems can be &#xD;
utilised to drive a centralised hydraulic turbine in reverse osmosis plants. This &#xD;
project analyses the dynamic response of a wind turbine driving a swash-plate &#xD;
pump, by utilising basic control principles to create models in MATLAB® and &#xD;
SIMULINK. The system is validated against a reference wind turbine such as &#xD;
the National Renewabe Energy Laboratories' (NREL) 5-MW Reference Wind &#xD;
Turbine.

    <title>Impacts on the grid from wind energy generators at prospective sites around the Maltese Islands</title>
    <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/78614</link>
    <description>Title: Impacts on the grid from wind energy generators at prospective sites around the Maltese Islands
Abstract: The threat of global warming, dwindling fossil fuel resources, increasing fuel &#xD;
prices and the liberalization of the electricity generation has changed the context &#xD;
in which electricity distribution systems are regulated and operated. Malta, as &#xD;
member of the European Union (EU) is obliged by the European Commission &#xD;
(EC) to reach specific energy and environmental targets by 2020. One of the &#xD;
obligations is to have 10% of the energy demand generated from renewable&#xD;
sources by 2020. Malta is promoting renewable energy sources through incentive &#xD;
schemes in order to reach this target while reducing the emissions of green house &#xD;
gases (GHG). The integration of renewable energy resources with for electricity&#xD;
grid is presenting a new challenge to the electricity distribution network operator&#xD;
(DNO). The electricity distribution system is no longer being seen as passive, &#xD;
where power flows from the main generation system to energy consumers, but it &#xD;
is becoming an active one, where consumers are also generating electricity, &#xD;
instigating a bi-directional power flow.

    <description>Title: A study of the effects of shading on pv panels, when wind turbines and PVs are to be installed in close proximity
Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to calculate monthly and annual energy yield of a PV farm under the shading influence of a wind turbine in a quantitative manner.

    <title>Improving PV modules output with passive flat reflectors in Malta</title>
    <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/78491</link>
    <description>Title: Improving PV modules output with passive flat reflectors in Malta
Abstract: The aim of this dissertation was to study ways of improving the output of PV &#xD;
panels installed in Malta, with the aid of flat plate reflectors installed in iron from &#xD;
the panels. Two sets of PV modules and reflectors were studied. &#xD;
During this study, the PV panels were installed at the optimum inclination angle &#xD;
and azimuth, and placed on a flat horizontal surface. The materials of true &#xD;
reflectors were chosen to be as cost effective as possible, widely available and &#xD;
most commonly used locally.
