(ADRIA). Most of the mail bearing marks of this company also have the strike of a hand stamp reading 'Tengeren' or 'Kikotoben' which means 'delivered on the high seas' or 'delivered in port' and which, presumably, refer to where the mail was handed to the ship's purser for posting. They could also receive the Paquebot cachet exclusive to the ADRIA in a variety of colours (in two versions, one underlined, the other not) and also, on landing, the ordinary PAQUEBOT in italic capitals. Sericulture is related to the Lepidoptera theme because the basis of sericulture is the silkworm moth. Silk is one of the most luxurious fabrics for clothing and bedding, and is also used for other purposes. Silk fabric was invented in Ancient China and played an important role in their culture and economy for many centuries. The famous trade route known as the Great Silk Road stretched from eastern China to the Mediterranean Sea, making trade in silk, among other products, an international affair as far back as 139 BCE. Raw silk and silken goods were exported from the East to Persia and then to Rome. In fact, this publication is not listed in Sapienza's checklist on Maltese periodicals.
