Title: The establishment of a national park in Mġarr ix-Xini : a necessity or an improbability?
Abstract: Much emphasis is being made worldwide on conservation,
green open spaces and wellness. Yet, whilst Gozo is well-known
for its natural beauties and rural character, in recent years, there
has also been growing criticism over the increasing volume of
construction and traffic in Gozo. Whilst some may claim that this
is the result of growing economic activity, others see this as a
threat to the environment and damaging to the very distinctive
character of Gozo which is in itself a pull factor for visitors. Hence,
issues pertaining sustainability, conservation and tourism all
come into play.
Gozo is still lacking a fully-fledged national park (NP) which
provides inhabitants and tourists alike with a green open space
showcasing Gozo’s biodiversity and rural identity by mostly
focusing on elements of conservation, education and recreation.
So, does Gozo need a NP?
This research aims to assess the viability of the establishment of
a national park in Mġarr ix-Xini which is sustainably managed to
enhance conservation in the area whilst maximizing its potential
of becoming an ecotourism destination.

The Gozo party 1947-1950

Title: The Gozo party 1947-1950
Abstract: The Gozo Party (1947–1950) emerged during a period of
constitutional change in Malta, aiming to advocate for Gozo's
interests, neglected under centralized governance. Founded
by Francesco Masini and prominent Gozitans, it sought to
address socio-economic issues, promote local autonomy, and
secure representation in Malta's Legislative Assembly. Despite
its short life span, the party emphasized Gozo’s needs through
initiatives like the Gozo Commission and leveraging its pivotal
role in government coalitions. It left an indelible mark on Gozo’s
development during the second half of the twentieth century.
The Gozo Party's legacy underscored the importance of self
determination for Gozo, influencing later political developments
and local governance frameworks.

The Monte di Pietà in Gozo 1910-1939 : a social perspective : the clients of the Monte part 2

Title: The Monte di Pietà in Gozo 1910-1939 : a social perspective : the clients of the Monte part 2
Abstract: After exploring the Monte’s inception and raison d’être together
with the administrative aspect and perspective, in Part One of
this article, the research moves on to its more important issue:
that of the actual clients of the Monte and tries to understand
the how and why of its usage.
The clients were mostly lower-class females, poor but not
destitute, who owned some collateral they could afford to pawn
to help them in a financially dire situation. The research explores
the de jure and de facto roles of these females and their position
within a paternalistic and patriarchal society.
