Title: Convergence of Greek economy with the EU and some comparisons with Polish experience
Authors: Osinska, Magdalena; Kluth, Karolina
Abstract: The paper aims to analyze economic situation in Greece and in Poland with comparison to the European Union. The basis for the analysis has been made by the theory of economic convergence. The newest statistical data concerning GDP per inhabitant were used in the study. In the analysed countries only for time series approach both unconditional and conditional convergence between the countries was confirmed, i.e. GDP per inhabitant in Greece, Poland and both the EU sections were co integrated. The results of the test for integration and co integration based on the panel data did not support the unconditional convergence.

Is globalisation affecting the quality of life? A review of the literature

Title: Is globalisation affecting the quality of life? A review of the literature
Authors: Tsakiri, Lina Th.
Abstract: This review reveals that: significant changes arising from Globalization (G.) affect the quality of life; contradictory views due to a lack of consensus on the appropriate methodology and tools purposing to define and measure such an impact, and an enormous complexity of parameters characterising both issues, impede proper estimations of its nature; the appropriate strategies and policies -national or individual- towards G., can differentiate such an impact. The review also gives suggestions regarding future avenues of further research.

Use and extension of count data models in the determination of relevant factors for claims in the automobile insurance sector

Title: Use and extension of count data models in the determination of relevant factors for claims in the automobile insurance sector
Authors: Ordaz, Jose Antonio; Melgar, Maria del Carmen; Kazim Khan, M.
Abstract: Using real, Spanish data, different specifications of zero-inflated models are provided in this paper to estimate the number of accidents declared by policyholders. These count data models seem to be the most appropriate solutions to study this question. Our work is completed with the estimations of the number of clients that do not declare their actual accidents and the number of these accidents. The analysis of all these factors could become useful for insurers to improve their efficiency. We conclude with a final theoretical discussion on the possible advantages given by other alternative models, like the so-called thinned models.

A note on theory of productive efficiency and stochastic frontier models

Title: A note on theory of productive efficiency and stochastic frontier models
Authors: Kokkinou, Aikaterini
Abstract: Neoclassical economics assume that producers in an economy always operate efficiently, however in real terms, producers are not always fully efficient. This difference may be explained both in terms of efficiency, as well as unforeseen exogenous shocks outside the producer control. This paper aims to analyse the productive efficiency estimation through a stochastic frontier analysis approach. Particularly, this paper attempts to examine systematically the theoretical background of stochastic frontier function estimation, focusing on the analysis of the efficiency function, in order to provide a solid background for productive efficiency estimation.
