      <title>The importance of English language schools in Malta : a stakeholders’ analysis</title>
      <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/41411</link>
      <description>Title: The importance of English language schools in Malta : a stakeholders’ analysis
Abstract: The aims and objectives of this long essay are to acquire greater understanding on the importance of English language schools towards Malta’s tourism industry, to learn and analyse who are the key stakeholders that are most important for Malta’s English language schools and their relationship with each other. This long essay will enable the researcher to evaluate the key challenges opportunities and threats for the development of English language schools to develop Malta’s tourism.&#xD;
To achieve these aims and objectives, a qualitative method of research was adopted to obtain a more holistic view from major key stakeholders of the ELT industry. Representatives from five established English language schools, as well as, representatives from the Ministry for Tourism, the Malta Tourism Authority, FELTOM and a host family where interviewed. These vital interviews were crucial to this long essay as they enabled the researcher to gather greater insight and understanding on the English language tourism industry in Malta.&#xD;
The general findings suggest that, educational tourism, more specifically the ELT industry is one of the main pillars of Malta’s tourism industry. Furthermore, this niche tourism market constitutes an important sector in Malta’s overall tourism product and contributes both towards Malta’s economy as well as to Malta’s society. Furthermore, a decline in key stakeholders, mainly, host families and teachers has been recorded. This needs to be addressed to improve the situation.&#xD;
These findings suggest that all key stakeholders need to design a competitive road map for the next ten years. This would help the industry to analyse key performance indicators and place Malta in a better strategic position to be better equipped to compete, to evolve and improve the quality of this niche tourism sector.

      <title>Is Malta a potential golf tourism destination?</title>
      <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/41410</link>
      <description>Title: Is Malta a potential golf tourism destination?
Abstract: Golf course development has been the subject of controversy in the Maltese islands due to Malta’s environmental specialists’ interest in the subject and two major reasons. One being limited land resources and two being limited water resources. Malta is heading into mass tourism and a niche market is needed, the motive for golf results in the expansion of golf courses in the Mediterranean region.&#xD;
Golf courses have been developed as a part of tourist packages in Malta's neighbouring Mediterranean countries such as Sicily, Tunisia, Cyprus, Spain, Portugal and Greece. This creates a competitive advantage to those countries. As Marion C. Markwick stated, ‘’In fear of establishing superiority competition from these countries, Malta faces two choices, either to pursue more golf courses or to stay put,’’(Marion Markwick). Although Malta already has an existing golf course in Marsa with over five hundred members and many on the waiting list because it has reached its carrying capacity, the course belongs to a private club and consequently has limited visitor capacity. Therefore, Malta is now on the negative side in comparison to competing Mediterranean destinations or countries. The aim of this research is to find out if Malta as an island is a potential destination for golf tourists, and the study focuses on the relationship between golf and the Maltese. During the interview or interacting with people, valuable concepts can be discovered.&#xD;
This research follows the qualitative research by conducting interviews with people from various sectors and those who were involved in golf course projects. The study concludes that Malta is an ideal destination for golf tourists.

      <title>The future of the vacation ownership industry in the Maltese islands</title>
      <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/41409</link>
      <description>Title: The future of the vacation ownership industry in the Maltese islands
Abstract: Vacation Ownership, also known as timeshare is an alternative type of accommodation&#xD;
arrangement offered to both locals and foreign tourists. The term Vacation Ownership means&#xD;
owning a unit within a resort that can be used for an agreed number of weeks over a specific&#xD;
period of time. In the past, timeshare used to be seen as a beneficial industry for many&#xD;
especially since demand for accommodation was not as high as it is nowadays. Over the years,&#xD;
different challenges surfaced that also caused the timeshare industry to suffer a negative&#xD;
reputation, leaving its future unsure.&#xD;
Several vacation ownership organizations were interviewed along with timeshare owners and&#xD;
the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) in order to shed more light on the performance of the&#xD;
industry in Malta and understand where it will be heading in the future. The results proved that&#xD;
the timeshare industry will not remain as well-known as it was in the early years of its’&#xD;
introduction. The timeshare model became harder to sell over the years and many companies&#xD;
are no longer seeing it a feasible market and are walking out. Nevertheless, there are still those&#xD;
that continue to see timeshare as a lucrative market. In order to succeed, these companies are&#xD;
investing in developing alternative holiday products and increasing their marketing. Those that&#xD;
are pro-active and are adapting to the changes are likely to succeed, causing the Vacation&#xD;
Ownership industry to shift from the traditional timeshare to a modern timeshare concept.&#xD;
In conclusion, the research suggests that more in-depth studies need to be done from companies&#xD;
involved along with more niche marketing. These companies shall also seek to expand their&#xD;
human resources and employ younger employees as the latter are able to bring in more fresh&#xD;
and innovative ideas that can help the Vacation Ownership industry to keep on moving forward.

      <title>Origin and development of British tourism in Malta : from independence to present day</title>
      <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/41407</link>
      <description>Title: Origin and development of British tourism in Malta : from independence to present day
Abstract: The following research paper focuses on the origin and development of the United&#xD;
Kingdom (henceforth UK) market as part of Malta’s inbound tourism. A holistic&#xD;
approach will be taken in order to understand the UK market by tracing the historical&#xD;
connections, outcomes and ramifications of historical events, general characteristics,&#xD;
push and pull factors, the profile of UK tourists, historical and emerging trends, and&#xD;
lastly it will explore the possible ramifications of the Brexit referendum on the UK&#xD;
outbound market.&#xD;
This paper takes a closer look at the patterns and flows of the aforementioned market.&#xD;
The literature review looks into the available research on the historic establishment&#xD;
and fluctuations of the British market. The research is executed through a mixed&#xD;
method approach whereby a desktop analysis is carried out as a historical analysis of&#xD;
literature was accompanied with an analysis and interpretation of inbound tourism&#xD;
statistics. This approach served as a means of obtaining an overview of the source&#xD;
market. Pertinent literature has been identified and reviewed through the exploratory&#xD;
approach while semi-structures interviews were held with key stakeholders such as&#xD;
employees the Malta Tourism Authority (henceforth MTA). This adds depth,&#xD;
authenticity, and a higher level of credibility to this research.
