The Nigger of the Narcissus : a tale of the sea

Title: The Nigger of the Narcissus : a tale of the sea
Abstract: The Nigger of the Narcissus has an unfortunate title, but it must be borne in
mind that the term 'nigger' was not such an emotive one at the time Conrad
was writing, and that he was using it descriptively and symbolically, and not
insultingly. If that obstacle can be surmounted, the novel can be seen not only
as an exciting tale of the sea,but also as a significant new portent in the history
of English fiction, and as crucial in Conrad's own development.

Title: Rabta bejn il-metafora u forom ohrajn ta' tahdit figurattiv
Abstract: II-metafora hija figura tat-taħdit Ii tqabbeI keIma jew frażi ma' xi haga li
fil-verita taI-ħajja normali u skond il-loġika ftit li xejn ikollha x'taqsam
magħha. Ix-xebħ moħbi li fiha I-metafora jitfisser bis-saħħa ta' assoċjazzjoni.
Izda I-metafora hi differenti mit-tixbiha għax filwaqt li din ta' I-aħħar
tagħmeI użu minn kliem: bħal, qisu, daqs, u tħalli jidher il-paragun, fil-metafora,
għaIkemm hemm xebħ dirett, il-paragun hu moħbi u ma jsirx użu
mill-kliem li semmejt. Niżel bħall-vlegga, iebes daqs iż-żonqor, m'humiex
metafori iżda huma tixbihat.
