Abstract: The aim of Il-Merill is to serve as a medium for the publication of&#xD;
the annual systematic list of birds recorded in the Maltese Islands&#xD;
and the annual ringing report, both produced by the Research Committee&#xD;
of the MOS. as well as for the publication of papers and short notes&#xD;
primary relating to the study of birds in the Maltese Islands. Accordingly&#xD;
the Editorial Board welcomes contributions treating any&#xD;
aspect of the ornithology of the Maltese Islands and the Mediterranean&#xD;
for publication in this journal.</description>

Abstract: This report covers the ringing activities of the Valletta Bird Ringing&#xD;
Scheme, run by the Malta Ornithological Society, for the year 1989.&#xD;
13,132 birds of 98 species were ringed. bringing the total to 202,025&#xD;
of 162 species (and 2 hybrids) by the end of the year under review.</description>

Zammit, Alex Casha, Charles Coleiro, Mark Anthony Falzon, Raymond Galea,&#xD;
Charles Gauci, Manuel Mallia, Joseph M. Mangion, Michaal Sammut and Joe&#xD;
Sultana. Other contributors were: Mario Bosio, Simon Busuttil, Denis&#xD;
Cachia, Jackie Cremona, Peter J. Dunn, Joseph Dunlop, Max Farrugia,&#xD;
Nataline Fennech, Morten M. Hansen, J.C. Le Gassich, Caldan Mercieca,&#xD;
Paul Portelli, Jurgen Rudder, Silvio Scicluna, Martin Thake and Louis&#xD;
Vella. Other members may have contributed to the daily lag kept at the&#xD;
Ghadira Nature Reserve, which records were subsequently added to the&#xD;
national daily and species log.</description>

Abstract: On 29 March 1989 at ca. 1530 hrs a partial albino Subalpine warbler Sylvia cantillans was trapped for&#xD;
ringing at Dwejra, Gozo. On that day there was a small influx of Subalpine Warblers and some typical&#xD;
birds were trapped for comparison.</description>
