Is religion under threat of being pushed aside in today's societies

Title: Is religion under threat of being pushed aside in today's societies
Abstract: One wonders first of all: Who is threatening whom? Is religion under threat of
being pushed aside or is the opposite the case: Is religion a threat to our contemporary
society, as many will argue these days? Is religion, in particular the christian religion
in Europe on the way out? And if so: so what? Is this something we should feel
troubled about? What does that mean for the norms and values which are usually
associated with those religions? Is that a threat or is this on the contrary a liberation?
If religion is something good on the other hand: what could be done to keep it, to
get it back again? I would like to divide my presentation in the following way:
1. First of all I would like to deal briefly with the question "Is religion a threat
to our societies?"
2. Secondly I will try to tackle the main question of my presentation: "Is there a
threat that religion will be pushed aside?" This is the issue which is usually indicated
with the term secularisation. I would like to deal with the possible causes: "Is it
unwillingness, indifference, or ignorance?"
3. And in the third place - this of course suggests and already presupposes that
my answer to the second question is in the affirmative - I would like to address the
question what could be done about the devaluation of religion in our societies. In
this context, I would like to consider to what extent is it possible to communicate
the Gospel in relationship to or in connection with art, literature and music.
4. In the last section, I will draw my conclusion.

Psalm 110, 1 and new testament Christology : a suggested interpretation

Title: Psalm 110, 1 and new testament Christology : a suggested interpretation
Abstract: In 1993 the present writer published an article in the journal Biblica in which he
observed that Jesus on the cross died as man, not as God, and that this seemed to be
a supposition underlying the account of the crucifixion by the author of the Fourth
GospeV According to this 1993 article the author of the Fourth Gospel presents
Jesus on the cross as "handing on the Spirit" (primary meaning ofthe phrase) at the
moment in which, as man, he dies (secondary meaning of the phrase). The
supposition, implied in the primary meaning when placed in the context of the
secondary meaning, is that as God Jesus did not die. The present article will use
these observations as a starting point for examining the use of Ps 110,1 in selected
New Testament texts, and will conclude with the suggestion that Ps 110,1, when
placed in the context of certain contrasting psalms, implies that Jesus as God did
not die.

Sensus fidei : consensus fidelium in ecumenical dialogue today

Title: Sensus fidei : consensus fidelium in ecumenical dialogue today
Abstract: In the preface to the compendium Der Glaubenssinn des Gottesvolkes -
Konkurrent oder Partner des Lehramts? Dietreich Wiederkehr writes: "To the not
a few new contributions which Vatican Council II has bequeathed to the Church,
her faith, her theology and her pastoral and legal structure, there also belongs in the
ecclesiastical structure, besides the basic category "people of God", the more
symbolic rather than conceptual programme of the "sense of faith of the people of
God". However Wiederkehr observes that the Council was not capable of placing
in concrete terms the concept of the people of God in relation to the reality of
everyday living in the Church and the existing system of Church discipline and
teaching. In 1992, a Conference of the team of German-speaking theologians of
Dogma and Fundamental Theology was dedicated to a discussion of the concept,
which is so rich in tradition. The results of this wide discussion were included in
the above-mentioned publication. We assume that the reader is familiar with them
