      <title>Greenhouse gases</title>
      <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/48128</link>
      <description>Title: Greenhouse gases
Abstract: The purpose of this dissertation is to give an overview of the greenhouse gases and their&#xD;
impact on the climate that affect human health and the environment.&#xD;
In the introduction, the definition explains exactly what greenhouse gases are. It also&#xD;
mentions them individually and explains in brief their presence and activity in the&#xD;
atmosphere.&#xD;
&#xD;
By showing the impact that these gases have on the climate, one can observe the power&#xD;
that these gases have and what effect they can cause. It is also discussed the effects that&#xD;
these gases have on the atmosphere.&#xD;
The health impacts that the climate change has especially the rise in temperature which&#xD;
affect human beings are highlighted in the literature review. This dissertation can also be&#xD;
a means of comparison between the situation present in the United States and the&#xD;
situation present in Europe including Malta. By collecting studies from the United States&#xD;
and Europe particularly Malta, one can see the difference between one continent and the&#xD;
other and can also compare different regions in Europe. In this dissertation it could also&#xD;
be observed the changes in temperature and the rainfall pattern in the Maltese islands&#xD;
over a period of forty years.&#xD;
&#xD;
The sources and emissions are discussed and subdivided in what is natural and&#xD;
anthropogenic. A means of comparison could be made between the two types of&#xD;
emissions.&#xD;
The consequences and recommendations are also included. They indicate various ways&#xD;
how to prevent illness linked to climate change. By mentioning the consequences one can&#xD;
observe the influence that the change in climate linked to greenhouse gases has on the&#xD;
health of individuals.

      <title>Storm Water.</title>

Definition: "Storm water is water from rain or melting snow that does not&#xD;
immediately soak onto the ground and flows over our yards, streets, alleys,&#xD;
parking lots, and buildings and enters the storm drain system."&#xD;
(www.dfwstormwater.com)&#xD;
The definition shows that storm water is a result of human development on&#xD;
the Earth's surface. Since the first human beings walked on the earth the nature&#xD;
took its own course of infiltrating water. The soil and vegetation accept and&#xD;
absorb rain and make it part of the living ecosystem. When the human being&#xD;
began to alter the course of nature he realised that he had to solve problems he&#xD;
created himself. So the integration between man and nature is essential.&#xD;
In the Bible 'The Book of Revelation' refers to clean and clear water in a&#xD;
river coming through God, as only benefit is obtained since its origin is&#xD;
immaculate as once the Earth was before became altered by humans.&#xD;
"the angel then showed me the river of life-giving water, clear as crystal,&#xD;
which issued from the throne of God and of the Lamb and flowed down the&#xD;
middle of the streets. On either side of the river grew trees of life which produce&#xD;
fruit twelve times a year, once each month; their leaves serve as medicine for the&#xD;
nations . ...... "&#xD;
The rapid change in land cover due to development increased and water&#xD;
run-off is becoming more hazardous on human lives. Storm water could be seen&#xD;
as a threat to human health, varying from floods generated from large quantities&#xD;
of surface run-off water, which could be fatal, together with the reduction of&#xD;
groundwater resources to the deterioration of water quality. Consequently&#xD;
solutions to these problems exist and are always improving and the tools to&#xD;
implement them are the will power and the economic aspect.&#xD;
In recent centuries the population in Malta has exploded and the demand&#xD;
for resources especially water and land, increased significantly ending up with a&#xD;
great impact in the lack of sustainable development.

      <title>The impact of yeasts and moulds on the food industry.</title>
      <link>https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar/handle/123456789/47747</link>
      <description>Title: The impact of yeasts and moulds on the food industry.
Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to review the impact of yeasts and moulds on&#xD;
the food industry.&#xD;
Both yeasts and moulds have been widely used all over the world for the&#xD;
production of various foods throughout the ages.&#xD;
The first questions that have to be answered are; what are yeasts and&#xD;
moulds? and how do they affect the food industry?&#xD;
Some of the foods that are produced by using yeasts and moulds and which&#xD;
will be discussed in detail later on are; bread, fermented milk products such&#xD;
as the vast selection of the cheeses that we know of today, salami as well as&#xD;
wine and beer.&#xD;
The positive and negative as well as the economic aspects of both yeasts and&#xD;
moulds have also been taken into consideration. For instance, if one type of&#xD;
yeast is used for the production of beer, the same yeast might cause spoilage&#xD;
of another food product.
