Title: An unrecorded Malta handstamp
Abstract: A letter dated 30th August, 1792 from Marnisi (an aristocratic summer
residence near Marsaxlokk) to Messina bears a highly interesting handstamp
"Malta" and another stamp with the date " Settre 1792".
This "Malta" handstamp has never been recorded and could well be the
first postal handstamp applied in Malta. The "DE Malthe", first known in
1755, was almost certainly struck in France.
The handstamp measures 2.4 by 1cm, and is struck in light grey ink. It is
not known if it was applied in Malta or in Sicily. [excerpt]
