The relationship between truancy from school and absenteeism from work

Abstract

The relationship between truancy from school and absenteeism from work in later on in a child's life has been the main purpose of this dissertation. Truancy, its causes and implications in the social context is explained in the course of the first chapter. The second chapter will focus on the causes why the children play truant from school, the relation, attitudes and values towards education and work with references to the Maltese Context. In chapter three the study will, by the help of a questionnaire and interviews, expose some of the difficulties and causes for truancy from school. Also the family background and the social influence effecting this problem is analyzed. In the final chapter some suggestions are forwarded in trying to minimise the problem of truancy from school with the help of all those concerned.
