Social aspects of psychogeriatric illness and care in Malta with special reference to dementia

Abstract

Though psychogeriatrics include not only dementia but also other psychiatric illness in old age due to space problems the description of the illness, its treatment and management concentrates almost exclusively on dementia. This dissertation builds up towards an evaluation of the Maltese system of care and how it can be improved. Comparisons with better services elsewhere and interviews with relatives of six patients are used as instruments.
