| Abstract: | The aim of this project was to design and construct a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope and obtain an image with it. In this report after a general overview of the theory and basic considerations, the development of the control and image processing software is described. The design and construction of the mechanical and electronic elements are described in a companion report by my colleague Mr. Martin Borg. Finally, the results obtained are presented and discussed. |
