Abstract: Wind energy conversion in the central Mediterranean Maltese archipelago could offer particular benefits on national and regional levels. Local authorities are currently evaluating three wind generation projects – two of which are land based (at Wied Rini near Baħrija and at Ħal-Far), whereas the third is an offshore wind project. This paper is presenting selected results from wind resource studies carried out in recent years by the Institute for Sustainable Energy of the University of Malta as part of wider ranging studies currently underway to generate more baseline information in this field.
