Abstract: This article delves into the history of the old statue of St Joseph and how it changed and transformed throughout the years. Although the statue today is known as that of St. Joseph, evidence shows that the statue was created to portray St. John the Almoner (also known as St. John the Almsgiver) as part of the Gran Carracca, one of the largest galleons built by the knights of St. John in 1523. The author argues that in the late 17th Century, the statue was acquired by the Confraternity of St. Joseph to use for their public processions and thus changed the statue to portray St. Joseph.
