Abstract: In view of the risks and opportunities stemming from the transition to a green economy, the European Committee for Social Cohesion adopted a Report on the Transition to a Green Economy: a Review of Distributional Effects in Europe. The Report looks at the likely effects of the transition in terms of social exclusion and income inequalities and reviews relevant policies in a context of a just transition. It emphasises the role of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in facilitating the transition and the importance of increased social dialogue, as well as the democratisation of institutions. Among other things, the Report touches upon the impact of the green transition on the labour market and persons in vulnerable situations, and reviews the role governments, in consultation with civil society, play in mitigating the challenges. In line with the above, the Report provides recommendations aimed primarily at addressing the challenges to social cohesion arising from the green transition.
