Abstract: Nowadays mobile devices have more processing power and thus are capable of performing complex tasks such as processing of multimedia data. Free-viewpoint TV is one such complex task, where the user can choose a custom viewpoint from where to view a scene. In this work, a depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) technique is used to generate a virtual view from a custom viewpoint by utilising the Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) of the mobile device. The limited resources of the device were taken into consideration when designing the system. The maximum performance achieved for a 1024x768 resolution video is 8.67 frames per second and the best PSNR value achieved for this resolution is 35.07 dB. The bottleneck of this system is the image decoding stage.
