dc.description.abstractThe life at sea of Sir Alexander John Ball. He was the fourth, but third surviving son of Robert Ball, High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1748, and Mary, only daughter of Marshe Dickinson, Lord Mayor of London, 1756-7. Alexander was born at his father's seat, Ebworth Park, and baptised in the parish church of Painswick on July 22nd, 1756. This article refers to his journeys at sea until his death in Malta on October 25th 1809en_GB
