Abstract: A thorough insight into the perception of female adults towards the importance of a healthy lifestyle during all stages of pregnancy is fundamental to the promotion of effective awareness amongst the target population. However, studies related to women’s understanding and view of healthy lifestyle practices in relation to pregnancy is rather limited. In view of this reality, the aim of this research is to investigate the perception of female adults towards following a healthy lifestyle prior to, during and after pregnancy, with a focus on nutrition and other lifestyle-related issues. In 2014, a quantitative survey was conducted among 100 female adults who attended the pre-marriage courses at Ta’ Cana Movement between April and June. Results indicate that, in general, the majority of females had a positive perception towards several pregnancy issues related to a healthy lifestyle. The major discrepancy noted was in relation to breastfeeding and the role of folic acid. After conducting the survey, small-scale tailored sessions were carried out during August 2014 with 11 female adults who attended the pre-marriage courses as well as participants recruited via other channels including online media. These sessions aimed at increasing knowledge and encouraging a more positive perception and attitude towards making the necessary lifestyle changes when planning for pregnancy. Both the quantitative and qualitative results reveal that the sessions left a positive impact on participants. An increase in knowledge and positive attitude towards several issues was noted. Based on this study’s results it is recommended that national health promotion campaigns and health professionals collaborate better to enable greater health literacy among the general population.
