Abstract: This study entitled “Maltese Gastronomy: An expression of a cultural Identity” explores five primary interlinked objectives. These being: A technical understanding of gastronomic practices, together with the knowledge of restaurant owners regarding the Maltese food culture. A further objective is to explore business focusing on Maltese food culture, including socio-cultural trends relevant to it. Aligned to these objectives is an exploration by the Maltese of their local gastronomic tradition. The Introduction qualifies the research objectives within the context of the research background and research overview. A Literature Review has been complied regarding cultural issues linked to the culinary sector by researchers conducted overseas. A qualitative interview approach is presented, the outcomes highlighted in the findings and analysis. These outcomes indicate that the restaurant owners perceive positive future growth prospects, particularly in view of the growth of the tourism industry. The Maltese in general are actively engaging in discovering their food culture. It is apparent that there is an underlying link between gastronomy and the broader cultural Maltese identity.
