Section outlines:

Section A will review management issues for coastal tourism destinations. It will examine current theoretical contexts for tourism growth, managing the coastal zone and definitions for tourism coastal destination typologies. Section B will address the theoretical contexts for climate change, reviewing current predictions, assessing impacts on coastal tourism destinations, the concept of ‘disappearing destinations’, evaluating current media responses and assessing current and future perceived risks. Section C will be a more applied section which will draw upon a range international case studies from leading academics, professionals and practitioners. These case studies will illustrate contemporary issues in the development of coastal tourism destinations, perceived impacts of climate change and suggested or actioned ameliorative measures and an evaluation of these. The case studies based on specific coastal tourism typologies, including established beach resorts, eco tourism destinations, island destinations and adventure/alternative coastal destinations, will be drawn from key regions of the world; notably the Americas, Europe, Australasia and Asia. Section D will draw together the key themes and lessons that can be synthesised from such case examples and evaluate the most effective and feasible means of tackling the threats to tourism destinations from climate change. Section E will summarise and highlight the key issues purporting to climate change and tourism coastal destinations , an assessment of future planning needs and a synopsis of actions required to save ‘disappearing destinations’.
