Grand Master Valette : biographical notes

Abstract

In this dissertation we are first going to take a look about the advantages and challenges one finds in writing a biography. Following that we are going to see who the Grand Master was including any information about his family and also how he was portrayed by contemporary writers with a physical description of him by people whom met him. In chapter 3 is going to be dedicated to Fra Giovanni di Valletta (as mentioned by Bosio), him becoming a knight and his role in the Order from Rhodes to Malta until he was appointment as a Grand Master in 1557. Chapter 4 will be rightly dedicated to Valette, as a Grand Master of the Order of St. John in Malta – events that occurred during his Grand mastership. In Chapter 5 we are going to discuss Grand Master Valette as the victorious leader and defender of Malta during the 1565 siege. A look at the actions and orders he took as a grandmaster of the Order, from the contemporary sources and modern sources.
