Abstract: This paper discusses the character and values of Valletta’s shorelines, and their role in shaping future plans for the city, in the context of Valletta’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While interventions that are poorly informed on the city’s values may jeopardise this non-renewable resource, a well informed, value based vision and approach present great scope for its creative and sustainable enjoyment.
