Photopsia is a visual disturbance involving the subjective sensation of lights, sparks, or colors in the visual field (‘‘vertical lightning streaks’’). Common causes of photopsia include vitreous and retinal detachment, retinal tears, and migraines. Less commonly, photopsia may result from cerebral infarcts, retinopathy, ocular toxoplasmosis, uveal carcinoma, or thyroid ophthalmopathy. Drug-induced photopsia has been associated with the use of clomiphene citrate, digoxin, and paclitaxel, although the pathophysiology remains unknown.en_GB
