Abstract: This dissertation had two main aims. The first aim was to discover the difficulties which students, of form 3 level in Junior Lyceums, encounter in algebra. This was done by administrating a test in two Junior Lyceums; a boys' Junior lyceum and a girls' Junior Lyceum. The test features twenty different questions covering sub-topics in the 'Algebra' and 'Equations and Graphs' section in the Mathematics Syllabus. The different problems that students encounter in Algebra were investigated. Some interviews were also admnistered to bring more insight of the students' problems encountered in Algebra. The second aim of this dissertaion was to design and develop a teaching and learning resource pack for form 3 Junior Lyceum students. This resource pack included problems and activities to help the students improve in Algebra. The resource pack was pilot tested with a sample of students. It was also given to teachers and a mathematics co-ordinator to give their feedback. The results obtained from the pilot study and from the feedback given was critically analysed and employed for further improvement of the resource pack.
