Abstract: Most research on dyslexia has focused on the specific reading and writing difficulties of children and adults with a profile of dyslexia. Less research is found on dyslexia and its psychological effects on the person (Humphrey & Mullins, 2002) and even less on giving voice to the individual with dyslexia (Burden, 2008). This dissertation presents a case study of an individual with a profile of dyslexia. A narrative approach was employed and several themes were brought up during the interview. These themes include assessment, the participant’s view on dyslexia, the educational experience, the family, the work environment and last but not least self-esteem and the overall quality of life. The positive attitude of the participant towards this learning disability is something society should take note of. Though the educational years were a difficult time for him, he finds pride in the accomplishments he has managed to achieve throughout the years. Together with the support of his family and help of his friends, the participant has learnt to deal with his profile of dyslexia and accepts it as a small part of his identity, a part which he himself embraces and calls a gift.
