The synthesis of 1,3-oxathiolanes from carbonyl compounds has been performed in good yields using Amberlyst®15 as a convenient, reusable, heterogeneous catalyst. The procedure can be applied for the chemoselective protection of aldeydes in the presence of a ketone function. In addition, Amberlyst®15 can be recycled without loss of activity and can be even employed in the regeneration of carbonyl group.en_GB
