The December 1965 issue of a Students' magazine in the United States carried the following obituary notice: 'Atlanta, Ga, Nov. 9: - God, creator of the universe, principal deity of the world's Jews, ultimate reality of Christians, and most eminent of all divinities, died late yesterday during major surgery undertaken to correct a massive diminishing in- fluence'. This is only one way of expressing a form of current theological atheism that has been gaining ground on both sides of the Atlantic since the end of World War n. 'Is God Dead?' This is the question that is being asked in a vast range of paperbacks and periodical literature today, and which many people are constantly asking themselves, unless they have already reached the conclusion in their heart of hearts that the answer is 'yes'.en_GB
