dc.description.abstractThe article explains the use of the Maltese kinship system, specifically that of Gozo. This is based on the equality of paternal and maternal lineages. The Maltese language has a word for each common name and the direct appellation corresponding for each member of the family. The common name is never used alone in spoken language and comes with a pronoun staff.en_GB
