Abstract: Procedures to measure directly the content of various hemoglobin (Hb) chains in single cells are not available . However, it is possible to calculate these values when the MCH of the blood sample and the relative concentration of a particular Hb fraction in the red cell hemolysate are known (1). Such a calculation is based on the assumption that the Hb component of interest is distributed uniformly over the whole population of circulating erythrocytes.
