Abstract: This study aims to explore the perceptions the teachers hold regarding the newly introduced phenomenon of co-education. And, in turn whether such perceptions influence their students’ performance. It also addresses the expectations teachers have and whether these vary according to gender. Five teacher participants teaching Form 1 and 2, were recruited by using purposeful sampling. Then, by using semi-structured interviews in-depth information was gathered as required by standards of qualitative research. Then, Thematic Analysis was used to analyse the results so that themes, such as Stereotypes, The Co-Ed Classroom, and Communication were elicited. Main findings included that co-education was well accepted by these teachers. Even though some stereotypes regarding genders are still pronounced, the teachers are doing their best to provide equal opportunities to both male and female students. The classroom management and balance affected the participation of the child, and lastly through co-education the teachers enjoy a good relationship with their students no matter the gender.
