Abstract: As human trafficking and forced prostitution have moved into our midst, they have found their way onto the international political agenda as globalization and increasing migration have dramatically expanded the number of women and children who are being forced to prostitute themselves, opening a profitable two-way traffic. Chapter 1 examines in detail the chronological development of international legislation in the fight against trafficking in persons and also outlines the different approaches and strategies as substantiated by different entities throughout the years. Chapter 2 investigates the domestic status, with special reference to the proper implementation of domestic legislation and international agreements in response to the crime of trafficking in persons, which is no stranger to our shores. Chapters 3 and 4 delve into the legislative measures and action plans undertaken by the European Union and the United Nations, respectively. Surely, international collaboration and coordination between law enforcement personnel across borders is crucial in the global fight against trafficking in persons. This is complimented by the operation of monitoring mechanisms sustained by entities such as the International Labour Organization, the International Organization for Migration, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and INTERPOL, which are be discussed in Chapter 5.
