Abstract

This information handbook has been prepared as an easy reference to basic data about Malta, its history, politics, government and economy. It contains, first, a brief introduction about the Island's geography, geology and demography, as well as its national symbols and Anthem. This is followed by an outline of the State and brief descriptions of the organs of Government, elections and other information of a historical and statistical nature, together with some biographical sketches of prominent personalities in the political field. A second section is dedicated to public policy in the areas of foreign affairs, education, social policy the economy and infrastructure. Currently available publications about Malta with special reference to historical, political and economic development are listed separately.
