Abstract: Reljic’s interview with local artist, Joseph Bugeja on his fantasy/folklore exhibition titled ‘Hotel Babaw’. The exhibition was held from 29th Oct - 20th Nov, 2016 at ‘The Splendid’ in Straight street, Valletta. Bugeja talks about the evolution of his artistic voice from his father’s (also a painter) influence, to 80’s Horror cinema and the Metal music scene. He refers to the research he’d conducted to create the works with intent to spark interest and awareness within the local community. He discusses the thematic connections between ‘Hotel Babaw’ and his previous folkroristic exhibitions as he identifies the freedom of imagination being the cornerstone of an artistic journey. The article also features photography by Justin Gatt and two of Bugeja’s works.
